Tour Details

Visit Stratford-upon-Avon, a market town with more than 800 years of history.

The walking tour is a lovely way to discover Stratford and its fascinating relationship with William Shakespeare. It is entertaining and informative, a gently pace, accessible, and the duration is around 2 hours.

The walking tour passes the Shakespeare Town Houses – Shakespeare’s Birthplace (the house where William was born, lived with his family and later after his marriage, his own family), New Place (now an amazing garden full of important artwork, but at one time the largest house in town and where William Shakespeare was living when he died), Hall’s Croft (Jacobean house and once home of Shakespeare’s eldest daughter Susanna and her husband Dr John Hall).

Also along the way, the tour passes Harvard House (once home of John Harvard’s mother. He founded the library that became Harvard University in America), the Royal Shakespeare Theatres (3 amazing buildings where world-class theatre is performed), the River Avon, a range of architecture from different periods in history, Shakespeare’s School and Guildhall, the Guild Chapel (free entry and a chance to sit down for a while if open) and Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare is buried. The Church is free to enter, but if anyone would like to visit Shakespeare’s grave in the Chancel, there will be a fee (£2 per person), payable to the Church on the day. The Chancel visit is optional and can be decided on the day, if the Church is open.

During the tour, the guides talk about, fire, flood, plague, old fashioned sayings, medieval cures and history, with a little Shakespeare. At the end of the tour you have a good understanding of Stratford, how it has changed over the years and a full understanding of William Shakespeare’s life from birth to death and in-between.

Each person is given a ticket with tear-off discount vouchers. There are 5 vouchers on each ticket and they can be used at over 30 shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions to obtain a discount. E.g. Half price entry to Shakespeare’s school, 30% off entry to Shakespeare’s Birthplace, 10% off the Four teas (1940’s themed café) and many more. A list of participating venues is also provided
